Aconcagua was a great preparation climb for Everest.

Successfully summitted in January 2007

Aconcagua was my second big climbing trip after Denali. It was a final preparation mountain ahead my Everest trip in March 2007.

Aconcagua is the tallest peak in South America at 6963 meters and the tallest mountain outside of the Himalayas but also very physically demanding in terms of carrying of heavy loads (25+kg backpacks) while ascending.

It was also another invaluable opportunity to help my body adapt to high altitudes. I had struggled on Denali and this was very much on my mind during this trip. To be honest I still struggled once again with the altitude although less this time. I think my body reluctantly gave in and allowed the strong (stubborn) mind to lead me to the summit.

It was another reminder to stay respectful to the mountain in order to secure a safe passage.

What a Journey
